In this work, a novel approach related to the production of hydrogen using a polymer electrolyte membrane electrolysis powered by a renewable hybrid system is proposed. The investigation is carried out by establishing energy balances in the different components constituting the combined renewable system. A mathematical model to predict the production of electricity and hydrogen is proposed. The discrepancies between the numerical results and those from the literature review do not exceed 7%. The results show that the overall efficiency and the capacity factor of the combined renewable system without thermal storage are 20 and 34%, respectively. The levelized cost of hydrogen also is 6.86 US$/kg. The effect of certain physical parameters such as optical efficiency, water electrolysis temperature, unit electrolysis capital cost and solar multiple on the performance of the combined system is investigated. The results show that the performance of hydrogen production is optimal when the solar installation is three times oversized. The results also show that the levelized cost of hydrogen for the optimal sized is 4.07 US$/kg. Finally, the proposed combined system can produce low cost hydrogen and compete with hybrid sulfur thermochemical cycles, conventional photovoltaic installations, concentrated photovoltaic thermal systems and wind farms developed in all regions of the world.  相似文献

Premixed H2-air flames are studied in a one-dimensional wall-bounded configuration. The laminar flame propagates towards and quenches at a wall that is either solid or permeable. Entropy generation by each of 19 elementary reactions is evaluated. Their total contribution remains the most important up to the quenching instance. Close to quenching, the conduction entropy generation grows considerable. Mass diffusion has a modest contribution, which decreases towards quenching. Viscous forces are negligible as a source of entropy. Effects of unburnt-mixture temperature and fuel-air ratio are investigated, and also dilution with nitrogen (inert) and water vapour. The diffusive entropy flux changed direction away from the permeating wall compared that of the solid wall. A major finding is that fuel permeation through the wall tends to decrease the entropy generation per unit of converted fuel, in particular for initially lean mixtures.  相似文献

This research builds on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) by proposing two additional constructs: warm glow and self-expressive benefits which could further drive consumer attitude and purchase intentions in the context of organic food consumption. We employed structural equation modelling (SEM) technique with Smart PLS 3.0 (Partial Least Squares) for the analysis of the hypothesised relationships between these psychological factors and the constructs of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The theoretical model was tested with samples from India (n = 471) and the USA (n = 440) collected using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (M Turk). Results confirmed the importance of warm glow and self-expressive benefits in organic consumerism in both markets. The study makes an important contribution in adding these two constructs to the TPB and then suggests practical tips to policy makers.  相似文献

Bovine mastitis is an economic burden for dairies worldwide. Mycoplasma species, and especially Mycoplasma bovis, are among the most important causative agents, and rapid, precise, and low-cost methods for Mycoplasma detection are urgently needed. For this purpose, loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and quantitative PCR (qPCR) assays were developed and compared. The LAMP assay was designed and primer concentrations optimized to M. bovis oppD, encoding oligopeptide permease D. For qPCR, a Taqman assay (Applied Biosystems, Carlsbad, CA) targeting M. bovis gltX, encoding glutamate transfer RNA ligase, was optimized for primer concentration, annealing temperature, and DNA polymerase. Both assays were similarly sensitive, with a detection limit of approximately 104 to 105 M. bovis cells/mL. Both assays were also successful in confirming M. bovis identity in laboratory culture suspensions and in bovine milk. The LAMP and qPCR assays combined with the MoBio DNA extraction kit (MoBio Laboratories Inc., Carlsbad, CA) resulted in the correct detection of 13 out of 13 M. bovis isolates and 14 out of 16 M. bovis-positive milk samples collected from commercial dairies in California. When combined with the PrepMan Ultra reagent (Applied Biosystems), the qPCR assay resulted in confirming 21 out of 21 M. bovis-positive milk samples. Comparison of the assays to milk containing either Mycoplasma arginini, Mycoplasma bovigenitalium, Mycoplasma californicum, M. alkalescens, or Acholeplasma laidlawii or milk lacking any detectable Mycoplasma species or relatives resulted in 3 out of 17 (LAMP with MoBio), 1 out of 17 (qPCR with MoBio), and 2 out of 36 (qPCR with PrepMan Ultra) false positives. Overall, the qPCR assay was more robust than LAMP and could be used on DNA recovered from milk prepared with the PrepMan Ultra reagent, a method that does not include a DNA purification step. The use of this qPCR method enables M. bovis detection in bovine milk in 40 to 55 min, and therefore provides new opportunities to accelerate and simplify M. bovis detection in unpasteurized milk to reduce the incidence of M. bovis mastitis outbreaks.  相似文献

Genetic selection of dairy cattle in the United States has included reproductive traits (daughter pregnancy rate, DPR; heifer conception rate, HCR), which is believed to have partly contributed to halting the decline in reproductive performance. The objectives of the current study were to evaluate the association among genomic merit for DPR (GDPR) and HCR (GHCR) with estrous characteristics measured by an automated device. Holstein heifers (n = 1,005) were genotyped at 2 mo of age and were classified into quartiles (Q1 = lowest, Q4 = highest) according to the GDPR and GHCR values of the study population. At 10 to 11 mo of age, heifers were fitted with a collar that recorded activity and rumination and determined the occurrence of estrus according to changes in activity and rumination compared with the individual's baseline values. Estrous characteristics of spontaneous estruses (SPE) and PGF-synchronized estruses (PGSE) were recorded. Heifers had their estrous cycle synchronized with PGF and following detection of estrus received either artificial insemination or embryo transfer according to the herd's genetic selection program. Heifers in Q2 (17.7 ± 0.3 h) of GHCR tended to have longer SPE than heifers in Q4 (16.7 ± 0.3 h). The interaction between GDPR and GHCR was associated with the likelihood of activity peak (0 = no estrus, 100 = maximum activity) ≥80 at SPE because, among heifers in Q3 and Q4 of GHCR, those in Q1 of GDPR were less likely to have an activity peak ≥80. Heifers in Q1 and Q2 of GDPR had reduced hazard of estrus within 7 d of the first PGF treatment compared with heifers in Q4 of GDPR. Heifers in Q1 (16.1 ± 0.4 h) of GDPR had shorter PGSE than heifers in Q2 (17.6 ± 0.4 h) and Q4 (17.4 ± 0.4 h) and tended to have shorter PGSE than heifers in Q3 (17.4 ± 0.4 h). Rumination nadir on the day of PGSE was greater for heifers in Q1 (?30.1 ± 0.9 min/d) of GDPR compared with heifers in Q4 (?33.7 ± 0.9 min/d). Among heifers receiving only artificial insemination, those in Q1 of GHCR (adjusted hazard ratio = 0.65; 95% confidence interval = 0.48–0.88) became pregnant at a slower rate than heifers in Q4. Genomic merit for HCR was negatively associated with SPE but tended to be positively associated with hazard of pregnancy, whereas GDPR was positively associated with PGSE and hazard of estrus. Selection of dairy cattle for DPR and HCR may improve reproductive performance through different pathways, namely estrous characteristics and pregnancy establishment.  相似文献

We, for the first time, observe ZrO8 complex in Zr‐doped UO2, which is a corium structure, using experimental characterization integrated with first‐principle computational validation. Atomic level structure of U1?yZryO2 pellets (y = 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, and 0.1) is identified using Raman spectroscopy measurement and X‐ray diffraction pattern analysis. The lattice constants shrink with increasing Zr doping levels, which consistently represents in the positive shift of T2g Raman vibration peak around 445 cm?1. More interestingly, conventionally unknown new Raman peak appears around 598 cm?1, which has not been observed in neither a pure ZrO2 nor UO2 doped with tetravalent elements other than Zr. We unveil that the new peak originates from ZrO8‐type complex formed on the fluorite UO2. Our study provides precise understanding on the formation mechanisms and material properties of the corium in the hypervalent oxide.  相似文献

A technoeconomic analysis and optimization of wind turbine size and layout are performed using WAsP software. A case study of a 100‐MW wind farm located in Egypt is considered. Wind atlas for Egypt was used as the input data of the WAsP software. Two turbine models of powers 52 and 80 MW are considered for this project. The wind turbine size and distributions are selected based on the technoeconomic optimization, namely minimum wake effect, maximum annual energy production (AEP) rate, optimum cash flow, and payback period. The future worth method is adopted in economic comparison between the two alternatives, and the cash flow diagram provided the payback period and future worth after the lifetime of the plant. The results showed that (1) the AEP dramatically decreases for a wind farm area less than 15 km2; (2) the turbine spacing, spacing‐to‐diameter ratio, and the setback distances decrease and the wind turbine density and wake losses increase with decreasing the wind turbines size; (3) the total net AEP using G52 is lower than that of using G80 by about 16%; (4) the technoeconomic analysis recommended using G80 as it has higher profit than those of G52 by about $20 million.  相似文献

Earth to air heat exchanger (EAHE) is a well‐known technique used to preheat or precool outdoor air before blowing it into a building. However, its geometry is often very simple as it consists in one or multiple straight pipes, while more complex arrangements can be found in heat exchangers design. In this paper, we explore the advantage of designing an EAHE as a network through the Constructal law point of view. A methodology is first proposed to design a single pipe EAHE when the need is defined in terms of cooling power, overall efficiency and enthalpy difference between the inlet air and the ground. Next, the single pipe EAHE is used as a reference for designing a tree‐shaped network under the constraint of identical fluid volume and cooling power. The geometrical features are allowed to change for the different branches of the network. The network coefficient of performance is found to increase significantly with the bifurcation level, illustrating the superior performances of the network. This approach was found to be robust as the improvements were not depending on the cooling demand or the environmental conditions. However, further work is needed to move from this theoretical result to practical considerations.  相似文献
